Get Active in April!

As the weather cools down and we head towards winter, it can be easy to let our fitness routine slip. However, staying active is important for both physical and mental health, so it’s essential to find ways to keep moving throughout the month of April.

Did you know that just 30 minutes of daily exercise can improve your overall health and wellbeing?

Deakin is a strong supporter of the Get Active Victoria which encourage all Victorians to be more active regardless of fitness level or capabilities. To help you get moving towards optimal health, this month DeakinACTIVE is hosting a range of free group fitness classes online and on campus to help you fit more planned exercise into your day. Why not have a go? It’s a great opportunity to meet other students and finish the month strong ahead of your final assessments for T1!

Here are some ideas for staying active in Australia this April:

  1. Join our Monthly Fitness Challenges:
    – Active April Classes: Everyone who attends 10 group fitness classes over the month goes in the running to win 1 month free membership
    – Active April MOVES: Everyone who totals 10k or more MOVES over the month goes in the running to win a 45-minute PT session
    – Join via the DeakinMOVES app
  2. Join a fitness class or group. DeakinACTIVE offer a wide range of Group Fitness classes like yoga, Pilates or HIIT training that can help you stay motivated and meet new people. See all our classes here .
  3. Join a FREE fitness class at our facilities this month. We also have a variety of FREE fitness classes available during Active April. Check out the FREE classes HERE.
  4. Take advantage of the cooler weather and head outside for a walk, run or bike ride. With fewer crowds and cooler temperatures, this is the perfect time to explore your local park or nature reserve.
  5. Try a new activity. Trying something new can be both fun and challenging, and it’s a great way to keep your body and mind engaged.
  6. Set a fitness goal. Whether it’s running a certain distance, lifting a certain weight or mastering a new yoga pose, setting a goal can help keep you motivated and focused.
  7. Make fitness a social activity. Instead of meeting friends for dinner or drinks, suggest going for a hike or trying a new fitness class together. This way, you can catch up with friends while also staying active.

No matter what activities you choose, it’s important to make fitness a priority in your life. By staying active throughout April, you’ll set yourself up for a healthy and happy year ahead.
