It’s time to have fun and Play! DeakinACTIVE are pleased to present DeakinPLAY, a social, fun and safe way to play organised sports and activities, supported by DUSA, Deakin Res and Deakin Sport & Recreation.

What is DeakinPLAY?

DeakinPLAY covers a range of activities and social sport competitions at Deakin University – including come & try activities, casual play opportunities or more structured but still social & fun sports competitions where you play actual games!

New to sport or want to play a sport you haven’t before? Come & Try nights supported by different DUSA sporting clubs. Come and try some different sports without the commitment and just for the fun!

Structured week-nightly basketball, netball and badminton competitions that anyone of any ability can be involved in. More sports to come – watch this space!

What sporting competitions are being run?

In Trimester 3, DeakinPLAY will be providing and casual play and sporting competitions for anyone who wants to have fun and get active!

The sports on offer will be as follows:

BURWOOD:

MIXED NETBALL:
– Monday nights
– Starts 16th December
– Game nights 6th & 13 December, then 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st January with finals to follow
– 6.30pm start
– Must be fully vaccinated


WAURN PONDS:

CASUAL 3v3 BASKETBALL CASUAL BADMINTON
– Wednesday nights – Thursday nights
– Starts 24th November – Starts 11th November
– 6.30pm-8.30pm – 4.30pm-7.30pm
– 3v3 10 minute games – Members and non-members welcome!
– Proper scoring, timed games – Come for a casual hit and have some fun
– $5 entry per person (Thrive members FREE!) – $5 entry per person (Thrive members FREE!)
– Prizes on the night* – Social event with music, come and have a great time and meet new people
– Must be fully vaccinated  – Must be fully vaccinated
*Prizes for the team that wins the most games – 3 x free stadium
entry for a Non-member or a free body scan for a Member.

 

Do I have to have any experience?

No experience is necessary – and everyone is welcome! If your goal is to meet new people, keep fit, or to play more competitively we can cater for all levels of amateur competition.

Do I have to have a team?

You can register as a team – but individuals are also welcome! If you don’t have a team but still want to play, register as an individual and we’ll add you to a team who need extra players and will be making up teams too.

How to register a team?

  1. Join now by visiting our online portal
  2. Create an account (the option to register will not appear until you have created an account) or login to your account
  3. Go to ‘home’ and click on the ‘sports’ tile
  4. Select location – season (Burwood: BUR – Trimester 2 or Waurn Ponds: WP – Trimester 2)
  5. Select ‘+ New Registration’
  6. Enter your team name
  7. Make a payment for your team’s registration fee

Once you have registered via the portal, you will receive an email with a link to our competition registration form so that you can finalise your registration and secure your spot in the competition.
