On the couch with a Gold Medal Winner!

Join us as we speak to Alex English, Waurn Ponds DeakinACTIVE member and Elite Fencer and part of the Elite Athlete Program here at Deakin University!

Alex has been part of the Waurn Ponds DeakinACTIVE community for the last 2-2.5 years and uses DeakinACTIVE as his training base while studying on campus. Alex does a lot of stability work, core strength, power training and leg work as part of his ongoing training and to support his individual development and performance for the fencing circuit.

Alex is part of the Australian Fencing team and has been competing in national and international competitions for the last 6 years, working his way from the Junior levels up into the Men’s and Open sections in national and international competitions. While COVID has affected the competition circuit this last year, hard work, dedication and consistency pays off and Alex was able to walk away with a GOLD MEDAL for the Senior Men’s Epee event at the Australia Fencing Circuit National Competition that was held in Brisbane in May last month.

We have a gold medal winner in our midst! Congratulations Alex!
